Test Witchcraft Chakra 88 lt 2010

Vada, Livorno, Toscana,  31 Marzo 2010 .

Le previsioni confermavano vento da SW in rotazione a Ponente  e l ‘occasione era perfetta  per provare la Chakra 88l 2010, il trifin della Witchcraft di Bouke Becker, shaper olandese trapiantato a Fuerteventura . Lo shape 2010 delle sue tavole è stato un po’ cambiato rispetto ai modelli degli anni precedenti , rendendo il Chakra più un wave Onshore. Dotato di  2 thruster da 13,5  minituttle e una pinna centrale US da 19, carena a V rovesciato, larghezza 60,3 cm. La versione è quella HDD , piu pesante (6,6kg) ma assolutamente piu resistente , fattore che ho voluto privilegiare nella mia scelta. Le condizioni erano particolarmente ostiche. Vento da 3.7/4.2 , praticamente onshore, mare molto confuso. Pesando 85 kili ho voluto comunque provare questa tavola anche se un litraggio  e una larghezza inferiore ,pensavo, sarebbero stati meglio per le mie ginocchia. Mi sbagliavo. La tavola non saltava mai fuori dall acqua, non picchia sui chop. La sensazione è quella di essere su un cuscino d aria. La capacità di risalire il vento  ottima, ma la dote che ho potuto apprezzare maggiormente è stata  la sua capacità di staccarsi dall’ onda e il mondo in cui la si puo’ gestire in mezzo ai chop “multidirezionali” , improvvisi  e veloci tipici di molte uscite a Vada. Sembra di avere un pattino sotto i piedi. I cambi di direzione sono rapidi, ma precisi. Non esiste spin out , è piuttosto uno scivolamento, basta togliere pressione col piede dietro e la tavola continua nella sua traiettoria. In strambata sull onda , forse si hanno le sensazioni migliori, con la tavola assolutamente prevedibile nonostante il vento forte  e il mare confuso con una spinta che sembra farla accelerare a metà della curva . Di sicuro esiste un fattore di fascinazione e contentezza, come per tutti quando si prova il nuovo giocattolo, ma la realtà è questa. Ritengo sia una tavola facile, che non incute paura, gestibile e diretta (grazie anche alle strap a doppia vite) con la quale migliorare molto rapidamente che è poi quello a cui ognuno di noi aspira. I waver piu esperti possono indubbiamente sfruttarne ulteriormente le doti. Un ‘ultima nota: i thruster possono essere tolti , le scasse chiuse ed utilizzarla come monofin in condizioni ,per esempio, lacustri.

Forecast was pretty good for the day with a SW wind rotating into the afternoon to West; the occasion then was perfect to try out the new Chakra 88L 2010, the trifin board from Witchcraft Fuerteventura by the Dutch shaper Bouke Becker implanted in the Canary Island since ages. The 2010 shape of all boards range has been slightly changed as he claims on his website from previous years turning the FSW Chakra towards a more on-shore wave oriented board. Gifted by 2 x 13,5" thrusters minituttle and a central US box 19" fin , reversed V hull, 60,3cm width, the one I have is made on a HDD construction , heavier although within a reasonable sharp 6.6 kg, but undestroyable. ( Bouke has fun to hummer them to prove this. Check it out on youtube!) . Conditions were far from being ideal. Wind was very strong and gusty, onshore, very confused sea, sails used from 3.5 to 4.2.
Weighting a good 85kg myself I thought it would have been better to postpone this test to smoother conditions but a new toy is a new toy and need to be tested. Well, incredibly the board never jumped out unwanted from water nor was smashing the chops thus making the life of my knees really easy for the day. The feeling was that of surfing on a air cushon. Its capability to go upwind is exceptional as expected from a claimed onshore wave board. What I have appreciated the most compared to the traditional monofin was its ability to take off and the way I could manage it between "multidirectional" quick and sudden popping up chops quite typical of this spot in strong wind days. It seems to have a skate under your feet! Direction changes are immediate quick yet precise. You go where you want to go. Spin out is NON existing; it is more a sliding , you take pressure off the back foot and
voilà off you go again. Jibing on a wave is a real treat; the board is very predictable and in spite of the rough sea and strong wind very forgiving. It is gifted by a thrust in the middle of the curve when very often other boards seat down. All right, there might be a genuine and spontaneous fascination typical of everyone trying a new toy but the reality is that
one. I believe it is a very easy plug and play board that takes the fear out of you , manageable and very direct ( maybe thanks to the double screw straps) by which improving very rapidily that is everyone's aim into the sport. More experienced wavers will appreciate and exploit for sure all its potential . A final note: the thruster can be taken out and the finboxes closed then using it as a single fin for bump and jump in Lake conditions for example. For more info www.witchcraft.nu
